Schoenstatt
The Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt is a Roman Catholic Marian Movement founded in Germany in 1914 by Father Joseph Kentenich. Fr. Kentenich saw the movement as being a means of spiritual renewal in the Catholic Church. The movement is named Schoenstatt (which means "beautiful place"), after a small village close to the town of Vallendar, near Koblenz, in western Germany.
The Schoenstatt Movement emphasizes a strong attachment to the Blessed Virgin Mary, upholding her as a perfect example of love and purity. Schoenstatt seeks to invite the Blessed Mother (and, hence, her divine Son, Jesus Christ), into the home by establishing a spiritual Covenant of Love with her. It encourages its members to have the faith and purity of children, and to think of Mary as their mother. For a detailed description of the Movement, follow this link, and for much more information, please visit our links page. Please be sure to visit the Movement's new international website, Schoenstatt.com!
A major apostolic outreach of the Schoenstatt Movement is the Schoenstatt Rosary Campaign, now known as the Schoenstatt Pilgrim Mother Apostolate. The Pilgrim Icon of the Mother Thrice Admirable (MTA), Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt, blessed in a Schoenstatt shrine and bringing graces from there, visits homes (or other locations) for a few days each month, during which the Rosary is prayed, fostering spiritual growth. The commitment period is one year, renewable yearly. See the Rosary Campaign pages for more information.
